My favorite food is….

Can you guess what my favorite food is after reading the following?

There is nothing like walking into the house and smelling butter and garlic wafting around.  I hear my mom banging and smashing something about in her big boiling pot in the kitchen.  When I walk in, the garbage pail is overflowing with peels, and she is adding milk to the white, slightly lumpy mixture.  I cannot wait to have a scoop or two on my plate, so I sneak some on my plate as soon as she finishes.

First, I make a little crater in the middle and put a tab or two of butter inside.  It seems like forever until the butter melts in the middle and runs over the sides like a little volcano.  Now it’s time to eat!  I put a giant forkful in my mouth.  Some people like these with gravy and no lumps…but I prefer the lumps, and just butter please.

I scrape every last bit off of my plate and am ready for more.  Mom slaps my hand away as I try to scoop into the white piles that are left in the pot.  She will make me wait for seconds!  This is my favorite food, and I don’t think any other way of preparing this food is better than mushed up with milk, butter, and garlic.  Not friench fries, not hash browns, or baked!

What is my favorite food?  What did I do as a writer to try and show you what my favorite food is without telling you outright?  Use the comment button to respond to these two questions.
